The Sparky Project was an art collaboration between Nelson, his dog Sparky and over one hundred international artists.
The Sparky Project started in 2004 and since then artists from all over the world created portraits of Sparky. In return they became official members of the exclusive Sparky Fan Club, receiving Sparky stickers, buttons, membership cards and memorabilia. The first exhibition, The Sparky Show, took place at Schroeder Romero / Winkleman Gallery Project Space in New York from May-July 2008.
In Memory of Sparky (1992-2009)
Sparky passed away August 23, 2009. A memorial exhibition, Unconditionally Sparky, was held at Envoy, NYC in September 2009.
Sparky was my best friend, muse, longtime companion and partner in crime. Sparky and I meet in California in 1994 and we lived together in Tucson, Chicago, and New York. I am forever grateful for all the wonderful years of love and companionship he shared with me. I know Sparky is still looking over me and all his friends.
Sparky will always be in my heart and by my side...
