About Nelson

Nelson Santos is a multi-media artist who lives and works in New York with his dog Sparky. He was born and raised in California, and received his MFA from The School of the Art Institute of Chicago.

Nelson uses photography, drawing, video, installation, performance, glitter, fun-fur, yoga, porn, fantasy and inspiration from Sparky to create his work and learn about love. His work uses humor and mischief to entice the viewer while exploring the intersections of id and ego. Using a twist of pop psychology, seduction and nonsense, the work plays between self-help and self-indulgence - wanting to be and wanting to be something else...

Nelson has exhibited nationally, including; The Bronx Museum of the Arts, NY; Art in General, NY; Bodybuilder & Sportsman, Chicago; Zola Lieberman, Chicago; Bona Fide, Chicago; Scott Nichols Gallery, San Francisco; Works Gallery, San Jose; Ambrosino Gallery, Miami; and Galeria Espacio Minimo, Madrid.. His work has been reviewed in The New York Times, Chicago Sun Times, Washington Post and C International Contemporary Art Magazine.
